I know that most people have the mindset that if something works then you shouldn’t change it.  I guess for some things this makes sense, but when we bought a veterinarian clinic, we found that this mindset can cause a huge disaster.

You see, we bought the clinic as it already had an established client base and was a good investment for a fresh out of school graduate.  I thought that it would make sense to work with something that was already established than starting from scratch on my own, so that is how we bought this clinic.

After the sale had completed, I noticed a big issue – there was no organization to their filing system at all.  In fact, there were files strewn across the building in various rooms with no specific order at all.  I knew that we needed a better system in place, so I looked in the phonebook for any company in the area that provided document scanning solutions so that we could have a better system.

As it turns out, there was a company in town that offered a document imaging service and they would handle all the work required to move us into the 21st century – so I ordered their services right away.

It was one of the best decisions I could have made and our business is doing better than it used to because of our efficient handling of information.  I could never imagine going back to paper files ever again.
