Who Has Liability at Employer Provided or Contracted Daycare?

baby-rattleI really believe that people should be given the wherewithal to conduct a criminal records check on any and all employees that work in a daycare center.  They may say that they do a thorough investigation into their background, but who really knows?  Their websites don’t necessarily tell you what service they use to do a background search, so maybe they don’t at all, or they do the cheapest job they can.

If you look on the Children’s Choice Learning Center website, it mentions that it is a resource for employers to help provide daycare for the employees’ kids.  I’m guessing this would be an in-building sort of situation.  Now, does the employer get to do employment screening on all of the daycare employees?  After all, they drug test Home Depot employees, so why wouldn’t they?

I’m guessing they might not just to reduce their liability in case someone is a pedophile or something.  Then they can just blame the daycare company.  So once again, in a litigious society where everyone wants to cover themselves-including me-I want to be able to conduct checks on my own!  If we can background check our maids, why can’t we background check our kids’ daycare workers?
