Working With Vinyl Lettering
By karen in Business | 0 comments
Custom made lettering isn’t just for magnetic door signs anymore. One of the hottest trends in current interior decorating is the use of vinyl lettering. Whether it’s an accent on the wall, or decorations in a child’s room, people are adding words and quotes into their living spaces. But how do you work with vinyl lettering?
Unlike vinyl window decals for a storefront or other structure where the lettering needs to be permanent, you have to make sure you’re using decals you can remove. Next, you have to decide what word or phrase you’ll be using. “Serenity” or “comfort” might work well in a bedroom, or “family” over a group of framed family pictures in the living room. Use your imagination. Also, think about the font style. The font is as much a decorative element as a picture or a vase and needs to fit with the rest of your décor.
Carefully measure and mark where you want the lettering to go. Use a level to get your lines even, unless you intend for it to be crooked! Also make marks for the spacing of each letter.
Once you’ve got your measurements centered on the wall, remove them one by one from the backing and lightly stick them to the wall. You don’t want to press them down hard right away until you’re absolutely sure you have them where you want them. Take a step back, look over your work, and if everything is good, go ahead and press the letters down for good.
Keep in mind, the thicker each letter is, the easier time you’ll have with application. Take your time and you’ll have a beautiful accent to your room when you’re done.
