Tough Love

My son just keeps getting in trouble. The first big one was when he was 12. He got caught stealing. And things didn’t get better after that. When he was 15, the police brought him home drunk. Last year when he was 17 he got caught with drugs. It has been a challenge. And now that he is 18, he is an adult. That means that if he gets in trouble now, the consequences are much stiffer. He has reached what they call the age of majority.
Unfortunately though, he is still up to his old tricks. I know he is doing drugs. And while he is living under my roof, that won’t fly. So I told him he needed to get a job and get out of my house. I kicked him out. He needs that kind of tough love right now.
I didn’t expect him to rob me before he left though. He took all of my gold jewelry and decided to sell the gold for cash at a local pawn shop. I was fit to be tied! I had to dish out more tough love. I ended up calling the police and reporting the jewelry stolen. Then they went and arrested him. The ball is back in my court now, and I need to decide whether or not to press charges. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and just don’t know what I am going to do.
