Landscaping services can cost a fortune. Having just gotten bids from several reputable landscapers in the area, I am very discouraged at the quotes I received. We just don’t have time on the weekend to care for the yard and get a couple of little landscaping projects done. With the quotes we received, we decided to take a week off of work and tackle the project instead of going on vacation. The cost savings allowed us to purchase a few key items to install in our yard that we’d been considering but felt were too expensive.

Since we were doing the landscaping ourselves, we splurged on a garden wall fountain and lattice to install around our deck. We purchased some rose bushes to plant outside our lattice and placed two wall fountains at each entrance of our yard by the gates. It took the entire week off to trim the overgrown trees, fertilize and aerate the grass, secure the water wall fountains and put up the lattice and new plants.

The do it yourself approach to landscaping saved us money. With the extra money, we purchased things we’d been considering for months. We didn’t feel like the landscapers had given us fair quotes so we took pleasure in doing the job without paying any of them. In the end, we enjoyed the time spent together. Even though we didn’t get to go on a real vacation, we felt like we accomplished something for our home.
