Repeat Business

I saw a cosmetic dentist a few years back.  I remember the moment when I first considered doing so.  I was on a blind date with a boy my friend had set me up with.  She said she studied with him in biology class, and that he was really sweet and smart, etc. etc.  We were having dinner, and I remember thinking that yes, he is very nice and seems quite intelligent, and he has a sense of humor I can really get on board with, but I’m just not really attracted to him physically.

When I thought about it, I realized that it was because he had bad teeth.  I felt guilty for being so superficial, but it’s a fact of life that we find some people more attractive than others, and the mouth is a key area.  Even while I was thinking these things, I knew that my mouth was no better than his.  That’s when I decided to get a smile makeover.

I ended up marrying that boy, and I was so happy with the results of the procedures that he ended up seeing the very same San Jose dentist.  In a perfect world we wouldn’t judge each other for things like bad teeth, but I suppose it’s biologically ingrained in us to find certain qualities attractive and not others.
