You should see how cute my little goldendoodle is on the bow of the boat.  She sits there with her little doggy lifejacket on (mostly because, the first time we tried to teach her to swim, we tossed her in the water and she sank straight to the bottom, so we’re never positive that she can actually swim on her own), looking out over the bow like a guide puppy.  It’s been so much fun for the kids to teach her to come out on the boat with us. 

She’s hysterical.  As soon as we shore up to an island, she’s off and running, leaping off the bow and running onto the island.  Unfortunately, she also likes to poop in surf, making it none too easy to retrieve.  We even built her a dog ramp, creatively using some boat parts and marine accessories. 

We tried hooking it to the Mercury outboard parts, but it didn’t work out.  Now she has full access to the boat, and we’re a family of boating, swimming, and sailing fun!  If we could only teach her that crabs will, inevitably, either pinch her or hook onto her fur, and that they’re not intimidated by her teeth or her barking, I would be a happy man.
