I had a dream a while back that my husband had passed away, and that I was having problems getting money or benefits from his life insurance policy or his 401(k).  It was a scary dream, but it reminded me of how important it is to take care of your family with life insurance and/or disability insurance.

For instance, say you are a physician or a dentist with your own practice.  Unlike at a “normal” job, if you are hurt or ill there is no sick leave or disability leave to pay your time off.  This is why physician disability insurance and dentist disability insurance is so important.

Life insurance is another necessity, regardless of what type of job you do.  If you unexpectedly pass away with having life insurance, your family will have to deal with the grief and the financial hardship of suddenly losing your income.  Life insurance ensures that at the very least, your family won’t have to worry about losing the roof over their heads or the food at their table while they are dealing with the grief of losing you.

Take the time to get life insurance and disability insurance quotes.  I know none of us like to think of our own death or a life-changing illness or injury, but your family needs you to prepare for it now so that if the worst does happen, it won’t put them in danger, too.
