What double hung windows and life lessons have in common

The neighborhood kids recent actions required me to look into finding a replacement window for the left side of the front of our house. When the ball came through to the living room, my most immediate reaction was a hearty, “WTF”?!!

While that feeling only lasted a moment, I was then taken to memories of my youth where I had participated in something quite similar. Being on the other side of the equation at this point, I could definitely understand why the owner of the home whose window we smashed was so upset.

In those days, fixing windows was quite the process, and anything that adds to the list of “Honey Dos” is enough to warrant excessive negative expression.

I, however, actually chuckled a bit, and took the kids up on their offer to help clean the mess. I’m sure their parents had a hand in that decision, but it felt like an opportunity to gently and respectfully share a life lesson with the young souls.

As they were cleaning up glass, I inspected the double hung windows in my front rooms. As I poked around the windows themselves as well as the frames, I wondered to myself whether or not I might consider getting them replaced in whole.

This accident may have further implications to be reported on later. Stay tuned!
