Group Apparel is like Greek Apparel

If you were part of a sorority or fraternity in college, you remember the importance that the group held in your life. It gave you a safe place to develop into an adult while learning more about working within the world around you. If you think back, you realize that all of the rituals that you participated in gave a sense of consistency to your life during a time which could have been filled with upheaval.
The groups that you form in your adult life are similar to the groups that you were a part of in college. They are there to bring stability to your life and to help you propel yourself to the next stage of development. But you don’t feel as bonded to your professional groups as you did to your Greek organization. Why is that? Of course, part of it is because your professional group doesn’t play quite the significant role in your busy life as the fraternity did during college. But part of it is also the nature of the organization.
In order to bring more meaning to your group, you need to bring rituals into it. The way to do that is to get everyone within the group to start seeing it as an important group. Remember the Greek apparel that you used to wear to show pride in your sorority? The same thing can be done with a professional group. Sororities and fraternites use custom Greek clothing and custom Greek Gear as a way of setting themselves apart as a group. Why not do the same thing with the professionals that you meet with? It’s a small gesture that confirms the importance of what you’re doing and helps the group play a more active role in your life.
