Why Do We Have The Second Amendment?

One of the things that were very important to the founding fathers of this country was to insure that those of us who were citizens would have the right to own firearms. This right to bear arms is the second amendment to the constitution. And for those of you who were sleeping through history class, it is therefore part of the Bill of Rights.

And when they said we would have the right to keep and bear arms, they were not watching out for us if we wanted to go duck hunting. They were talking about citizens having the right to bear arms so they could protect themselves. And who were our founding fathers worried that we might need to protect ourselves from? Well this may come as a shocker, but one was to protect ourselves from our own government! Of course another valid reason was to defend ourselves from foreign invaders.

So the next time you hear about the government wanting to ban what they call assault weapons or other tactical gear, remember why we have this right. It’s not so we can don our camoflauge and go shoot Bambi. It is so that should the need arise we could rise as a people against the powers that be or protect ourselves from a foreign invasion.
