How to Compromise on Travel

One of the problems that I’ve run into a lot with my boyfriend is that we want to do different types of travel. I want to travel to foreign countries to experience unique cultural things. He wants to travel to places where he has friends and family and can just get some downtime. We’re learning how to compromise.
The main thing that we do is that we trade off trips. One time we’ll go to do something that I want to do and then the next trip will be all about him. However, compromise is about more than that. We’ve also found that it’s important to find things about each trip that we like. I didn’t love the idea of going to Banff Canada to see his relatives but I did find things to do in Banff to keep me happy. That made the trip fun. Griping about it would’ve ruined it for both of us. (And, to be honest, Banff turned out to be a pretty fun place.)
The other thing we do is that we sometimes travel without each other. This allows us to do more of the trips that we individually want to do so that neither of us feels like we’re missing out on what we want in life. So far it seems to be working out for us.
